Hanwha Life Esports Crowned MSI 2026 Champions After 5-Game Thriller Against BLG
Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) has officially conquered the Mid-Season Invitational! In an unforgettable, five-game Grand Final in Daejeon, the Korean juggernauts took down China’s Bilibili Gaming (BLG) 3-2 to claim the organization’s first-ever MSI trophy.
The victory completely flipped the script. Just days prior, BLG had dismantled HLE 3-1 in the upper bracket, entering the finals as heavy favorites with a historic “Golden Road” in their sights. But when the pressure peaked, HLE delivered an absolute masterclass, led by Finals MVP Choi “Zeus” Woo-je.
Here is how HLE reshaped the 2026 season narrative.
A Massive Statement for the LCK
This championship is a landmark moment not just for HLE, but for the entire Korean region. Out of the six LCK vs. LPL finals in MSI history, this marks only the second time the LCK has walked away with the trophy.
After a year where BLG looked like an unstoppable global force, HLE has firmly reset the international balance of power. As a massive bonus, this MSI victory guarantees HLE a direct ticket to Worlds 2026, provided they qualify for the LCK Summer playoffs.
Player Legacies Rewritten
Beyond the team accolades, HLE’s roster secured several massive individual milestones:
-
Gumayusi Steps Out of the Shadow: Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyung finally captured his first international title away from T1, cementing his legacy independent of Faker. True to his word, he stated before the match, “I have never lost confidence against BLG, I will definitely win.”
-
The Grand Slam Club: Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo and Zeus join the elite tier of players who have won all major modern international League of Legends tournaments. Incredibly, Zeka achieved this in his very first MSI appearance.
-
Kanavi Joins Ruler: Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok secured his second MSI title (his first was with JDG in 2023), becoming one of the few players to win the tournament with two different organizations.
-
First-Time Winners: This marks the first MSI victory for Zeus, Gumayusi, Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong, and Zeka.
Series Breakdown: A Game of Incredible Swings
Game 1: HLE Draws First Blood The series opened with a grueling, razor-close match. BLG refused to go down easy, but a hyper-calculated Baron play by HLE at the 41-minute mark blew the game open. Gumayusi’s late-game Caitlyn proved too oppressive to deal with, putting HLE up 1-0.
Game 2: BLG Stabilizes HLE came out swinging early, putting heavy pressure on Kanavi and Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin. However, BLG refused to crack. Peng “Xun” Li-Xun orchestrated a brilliant comeback, stabilizing the map and securing the Ocean Soul to make the game completely unplayable for HLE. The series tied 1-1.
Game 3: The LPL Champions Take Control BLG seized the momentum. Bin secured two rapid kills on Jax, while Xun’s Nocturne paralyzed the map with relentless pressure. HLE couldn’t find a foothold, allowing Bilibili Gaming to take a commanding 2-1 lead.
Game 4: Zeus Puts the Team on His Back Facing elimination, HLE locked in Swain for Zeus. Despite a terrifying performance by Park “Viper” Do-hyeon on Mel, HLE maintained stellar objective control. A decisive 23-minute Baron teamfight broke BLG’s defenses, pushing the Grand Final to Silver Scrapes.
Game 5: The Ultimate Staredown With the trophy on the line, both teams played a tense, calculated finale built around massive top-lane threats. Ultimately, the championship came down to one explosive teamfight around Baron Nashor. HLE found the perfect angle, shattering BLG’s resistance and securing the 3-2 victory.
Heartbreak for Bilibili Gaming
For BLG, the defeat is a devastating blow. They were one series away from keeping their Golden Road hopes alive and solidifying their era of dominance. Instead, a painful curse continues: following losses to JDG (2023) and Gen.G (2024), BLG has now lost their third MSI Grand Final.
Despite fielding a world-class roster with undeniable individual talent, BLG once again fell mere inches short of the finish line. Meanwhile, Hanwha Life Esports proved they are not just a team of superstars on paper—they are a cohesive, championship-winning juggernaut ready to take over 2026.
