PlayStation Plus Adds Classic PS2 Shooter Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy This Month
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will soon be able to revisit one of the PlayStation 2 generation’s most memorable action games. Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is making its return to the service, giving longtime fans another chance to experience the cult-favorite third-person shooter.
Originally released in 2004 by Midway, the game earned praise for its unique gameplay mechanics and remains a nostalgic favorite among PS2 players.
A PS2 Classic Returns
The PlayStation 2 era produced some of the genre’s biggest hits, including TimeSplitters, Killzone, and several other standout shooters. Among them was Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, a title that stood out thanks to its psychic-powered combat and creative level design.
Players take control of Nick Scryer, an undercover operative who wakes up with no memory after infiltrating a dangerous terrorist organization. As he uncovers the truth about his past, he must stop the group from gaining control of a powerful artifact before it’s too late.
Master Powerful Psychic Abilities
One of the game’s defining features is its supernatural combat system. Throughout the campaign, players unlock and use a variety of psychic powers, including:
- Telekinesis
- Pyrokinesis
- Mind Control
- Mind Drain
- Aura View
- Remote Viewing
These abilities allow players to throw enemies across rooms, manipulate objects, solve puzzles, and approach combat in multiple ways, making the gameplay feel fresh even years after its original release.
When Is Psi-Ops Coming to PlayStation Plus?
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy will be available for PlayStation Plus Premium members later this month as part of Sony’s expanding library of classic titles.
The game’s return was previously announced during a PlayStation presentation, but many fans may have forgotten it was on the way. Its arrival gives both returning players and newcomers the opportunity to experience one of the PS2 era’s most unique action shooters.
July PlayStation Plus Lineup
Sony is also preparing to reveal the complete PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium lineup for July.
Players in some regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan, may continue to see Sony’s phased rollout approach, meaning games could become available on different dates depending on location. In many other regions, the July catalog is expected to launch together later in the month.
Meanwhile, the PlayStation Plus Essential games are already available, featuring:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
- For The King II
- CrossCode
The lineup offers a mix of first-person action, tactical RPG gameplay, and retro-inspired adventures for subscribers.
Final Thoughts
The return of Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is welcome news for fans of classic PlayStation games. Its combination of third-person shooting and psychic abilities helped it stand apart from other titles of its time, and its arrival on PlayStation Plus Premium gives a new generation of players the chance to discover why it became such a cult favorite.
Whether you’re revisiting Nick Scryer’s story or experiencing it for the first time, this PS2 classic is one worth adding to your library.
